Detailsview itemupdating event not firing
We may never know about all of the dangers lurking out there, but today we’re going to cover at least one danger you may encounter while writing event receivers – an annoying issue with the Item Updating and Item Updated events firing twice.
I should also point out that I know the difference between a metaphor and simile in case that was bothering you from the opening sentence.
When I databind programmatically in the Page_Load, the data displays in the Read Only mode fine, but when I click on Edit command button, it does a postback and the data in the right column (not the headers) disappears and it does not go into Edit mode or call the Edit Item Templates. The Mode Changing event is fired but the Mode Changed is not.
I tried using an Object Data Source declaritively in the aspx file.
I’m usually disappointed when writers employ oft-overused metaphors to describe a situation.
With that in mind, Share Point 2010 is like a sea of icebergs – there is a lot going on under the surface that you may not notice until it’s too late.
Unfortunately, that makes your project like the Titanic.
I don’t mean that it’s largest and most luxurious application every written, but rather that you may be cruising headlong into a nasty rendezvous with an iceberg that could deal a severe blow to your project.
This allows you to provide an event handler that performs a custom routine, such as canceling the insert operation, whenever this event occurs.I tried using and Update method that took a Data Table or Hashtable. If you use a Object Data Source but don't provide Update Method, the Item Updating event is still fired so you can update your db using the e. But I can't seem to find a way to have it pass me a dynamic data object when using the Object Data Source. If my update method takes a Data Table, the update method does not get called nor does the Item Updating event get called so that I could handle it in there. I have a nice welt on my forehead from banging my head against the wall here. I create the Template Fields on the fly using a class that implements ITemplate and repopulate the Template properters of Template Field in On Init. And I am Data Binding by getting a Data Table from my db provider class in Page_Load event.
